Book Week Dress-up and Parade

Book week picture of children dressed up as characters

View information: On Tuesday 22 August 2023, K-6 children will be taking part in a Book Week parade. Parents and families are invited to watch the parade. When entering the school grounds, parents will be asked to sit/stand in the designated parent viewing areas. When arriving and departing, we kindly ask you to make your way on and off the school grounds as quickly as possible.

The parade is planned to take place after classes complete their morning routine.

Time: 9:30am-10.30am

Before the day

In preparation for this parade, all K-6 students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character, or in their favourite dress up clothes. Students can even come dressed as a non-fiction personality such as a soccer player, historical figure, or scientist. Students are reminded to select an outfit that they can wear all day and in the playground. Remember to use whatever dress up clothes you have at home or make your own. There is no need to buy an outfit. Lots of ideas for costumes can be found online.

Please note: Students do not need to bring the book related to their dress up character if they do not have a copy.

On the day

Please arrive just before the time of the parade. Visitors may enter the school grounds via the south-eastern gate located on Gray Street or via the western gate, located on Stewart Street. Once you are on the school grounds, we ask that you make your way to the family viewing areas. Students will parade around the COLA in their classes. This will be announced by a teacher on the day.

The winners of our colouring and poster competitions will be announced during the parade.

In the event of rain

In the event of rain, the Book Week parade will be moved into the hall. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate all classes at one time so it will be split into two sessions.

  • Session 1: 9.20am-9.50am ( K-1 and Stage 3 buddies)
  • Session 2: 10.00am-10.30am (Year 2 and Stage 2)

Visitors will be asked to sit/stand in the outdoor undercover area at the back of the hall to view their child's class. Parents are asked to leave when their child's session is complete. Parents with children in both sessions are welcome to remain. Fingers crossed for a sunny day!

We thank you in advance for your understanding and support in making our Book Week parade a wonderful event. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
